Healthy Inside and Out

Healthy Products

I believe in being healthy inside and out. I try to eat healthy, live a healthy life, and be a conscious consumer. I’m not perfect, but I feel like I am doing well in my quest for a healthy body. One thing that many people don’t think about when trying to become healthier are the products we use on the outside of our bodies.

Our skin is the largest organ in our body and is very porous and absorbent. When you think about the thousands of beauty and hygiene products in the world and how many chemicals, among other things, there are in those products it can be overwhelming at times. I have searched the internet and local stores to find good, inexpensive, healthy, natural (or mostly natural) products to keep my body healthy and clean. It has been a long journey to find these products and an even longer journey of trial and error to test them out and find products that work better or are more natural or less expensive.

I would like to share these products with you and let you know how I use them and why I like them more than products you would normally use.

Primal Pit Paste

This awesome little glass bottle of pit paste is one of my favorite discoveries in my search for natural hygiene products. The company is awesome, the people are friendly and helpful and the products are all natural, they look great, they smell great and they work (dare I say it) much, much better than any “normal” deodorant or antiperspirant that I have ever used. No sweaty armpits, no aluminum, no yucky chemicals, no yellow pit stains, no overwhelming smells, and nothing bad for your skin or your body. And best of all, it works! I’ve used it for several months, throughout a Utah summer (100 degree dry heat) and it is the best product ever for smelly or sweaty pits.

JR Liggett’s bar shampoo

This was a random discovery in a natural food store. I was looking for a cheaper alternative to my Burt’s Bees Shampoo. I found this little bar shampoo tucked away on a bottom shelf and after two months of using it I haven’t looked back. My wife appreciates my softer, fuller hair and I appreciate the lack of chemicals. This shampoo is made from all natural oils that restore the oils that your body makes on its own and cleans out the other dirt and grime. This creates soft, shiny, full hair without all the chemicals. Other shampoos strip the oils with some chemicals and then put other chemicals in to take their place. I let the bar shampoo do the dirty work and let my body take care of the rest. It’s doing an awesome job without the chemicals and I don’t suffer from an itchy scalp anymore!

Burt’s Bees

Yes, I know there is probably some controversy around Burt’s Bees products. It’s like the chain restaurant of natural products. But there are some great things that the company makes, among some that aren’t so great. I haven’t used many of their products extensively, but of the few I have tried I have been pleased enough to recommend them here for you.

Chapstick
I can’t add much here to what you probably already know. This seems to be a craze now. It’s the cool thing to use Burt’s Bees chapstick now, which is awesome because this stuff isn’t riddled with chemicals. Primal Pit Paste also makes an awesome chapstick with a Coconut Oil base. You just have to try this stuff out. It works and smells great and is all-natural!

Shampoo
Yes, I did stop using this shampoo, but it was purely out of curiosity for the bar shampoo and a smaller budget (I’m a college student and a newly wed. I have to cut costs wherever I can. This also explains the affiliate links!). This shampoo served me well; although it does still contain some slightly questionable ingredients and most of the scents have a 96% natural label on the front, which begs the question, why not just go the extra 4%? Oh well, it’s still a great product and I would recommend it to those of you who still prefer a liquid shampoo.

Tom’s of Maine Toothpaste

Tom’s does make some products that I would not recommend, but if you are looking for fluoride free toothpaste (which you should be looking for fluoride free toothpaste because fluoride is not good for you or your teeth) then Tom’s is the way to go. They use natural mint essential oils for flavoring, no chemicals and the company is great. They support service, donate money to help the planet and many other awesome things! And they make great toothpaste. I’ve been using it for several years and still have not had one single cavity!

I hope that you find some natural products that work for you. The trick to finding these products is thorough searching, asking, testing, more searching and recommendations. I have given you a good starting place and I hope you find more all-natural products to aid you in your own queset for healthy living, inside and out!

I have been using baking soda and vinegar rinse for my hair for about two years now and love it. I use a homemade toothpaste that is wonderful. I also use ever clear with a few drops of essential oil for deodorant, I put it in a spritz bottle and it lasts forever. I love making my own products as I control what goes in therm.
