May: Walk or Bike Every Day


Unfortunately I lead a fairly sedentary lifestyle. This is not by choice, but rather a side effect of working in an office full-time and attending school. I try to get out walking, running or biking as often as possible, but some weeks it doesn’t happen very often.

So this month I’m going to change that. I’m going to get outside and bike or walk every day. I want to see what obstacles are in my way for walking and biking. I want to be more active and I think trying to bike or walk as often as possible will pave the way for more consistency.

If I had one goal for this month it would be to create a consistent walking or biking routine. I don’t have any goals for miles or steps or minutes or hours. I only want to be consistent and see that consistency carry over into future months.

What do I plan to do? My summer class just started so I have mornings and late afternoons fairly open on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. I will either work in the morning, go to class and then go for a bike ride in the afternoon or switch it around and bike in the morning and work in the afternoon. Then on weekends and Tuesdays and Thursdays I will go on short walks during work to get myself moving and then go for walks in the evening with my wife Sarah.

Because I got a late start on this month, I’m going to extend it into next month as well as doing next month’s experiment. This shouldn’t be a problem to include alongside a daily yoga routine for the first week.

I’m hoping to get lots of fresh air, see more of our neighborhood and get my legs moving! I’m not training or trying for any weight or workout goals here. Just a simple way to get moving and get fresh air and sunshine.

I hope that you can get out and get moving too! We were designed to move our bodies. It helps us think quicker, breathe easier, live better and appreciate the beauty of the world. Even a little bit of movement outside will brighten up your day.
