I am doing great with waking up early and I hope you are too! This is the best I have done with getting out of bed early in a very long time. I have been watching myself and my urges to go back to sleep. I have noticed the close relationship between my ability to get up early and my attitude when I wake up and throughout the morning. I have been doing well with waking up early (6:00 AM every morning so far!) but I want to take things a step further to improve my attitude and morning mood and set the tone for the rest of the day.
I want to greet the morning with joy. I want to show gratitude for the day ahead of me and spend the time that I have been given wisely. I would like to do this to set the mood for my day, begin with happiness and give back gratitude.
Here are some of the things I will do in the next few weeks to invite happiness and joy into my morning routine and greet my day with joy:
- Watch the Sunrise
- Meditate or sit, breathe and focus
- Set daily intentions
- Write down 3 things I am grateful for
- Share morning gratitude
- Greet the morning with exercise
- Get some fresh air
I think most of these are probably self-explanatory and I may go into more detail later on with each item. I would like to explain a couple of them in more detail:
- Set daily intentions:
What do you want to do with this time? What are your intentions for the day? For the morning? For tonight? Spend some time to think about how you want to spend your time this morning or throughout the day. Write them down and carry them with you. Look at them often. Some ideas: smile more, write 500 words, don’t check your phone between 6 AM and 9 AM.
- Share morning gratitude:
The first step is to be grateful for this day. Be happy that you are awake and alive. Give a silent, internal ‘Thank You’ to the Sun for rising. Then share this gratitude. Write it down, tell your spouse or children, tweet about it, post on your blog, text or call a friend and share the gratitude of another day.
